NYC - Where the Sidewalks Are Paved With...Smiles!

Don't know exactly what these mini-manhole covers are but they're popping up all over my neighborhood. They are placed near the curb and probably have something to do with the new subway line which is being built under Second Avenue - small vents maybe????  At least they're fun to look at, not like most of things "left" on the sidewalks of the city!

Watertower by Tom Fruin, DUMBO

Watertower, a sculptural artwork by Brooklyn artist Tom Fruin is situated on the rooftop of 20 Jay Street. In place until June 2013, it can be  viewed from the parks and streets of Dumbo, the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges, FDR Drive and Lower Manhattan.

Hardy Street Trees - NYC Style

NYC trees have had a rough Fall so far...Hurricane Irene and then the freakish October snow storm felled many and damaged many more. But these "trees," made from colorful plastic ties wrapped around lamp posts around Cooper Square in Manhattan survived unscathed!

Artist juliana santacruz herrera has transformed the streets of paris by turning their cracks and potholes into beautiful eye-catching objets d'art.

She braids and coils lengths of colorfully-dyed fabrics into the shallow breaks in the grey streets.

Mayor Bloomberg, take note. Can we hire Ms. Herrera? Doing the same thing for NYC could become her life's work! It may only be a temporary solution to the problem but so is the asphalt that street repair crews currently use.
