My neighborhood has a lot of Irish bars. Every St. Patrick's day, revelers walk across town from the parade on Fifth Avenue to drink and party. They get pretty raucous and loud but most of it is good-natured fun. Years ago, before there was a crackdown, some of the revelers were police officers and fire department personnel in uniform. That was a bit difficult to explain to my son. Even now, every once in a while, there's a fight, or someone left over on our doorstep the next morning. What people do for fun!
